I chose to keep this simple. With this choice, I have about 5 other variants if I change my mind or even a show room stocker. The kit has a few faults but it makes a pretty good shelf looker. I figured I had less chance making this one a wall missile than some others I thought about and a better chance of finishing it.

Great choice! I almost bought one on eBay today. Can't wait to see what you do with this. I'm really kind of hoping you choose something other than a Dave Strickler car.

I understand Steve but I do have some Correct Strickler 62 decals I need to use before they get too old. Dave's car is a little plain but I have see enough Sox & Martin builds to last me another couple hundred years. The S&M guys were really top line stuff and I am not talking bad about Ronnie or anything, I just have seen enough of that. Who knows, this might turn into Dyno Don's or Hayden's ride or maybe something out of my head. This was a pretty famous car though. Dave and Jiggs did very well with it. If it is a Strickler car I end up doing, I still have enough kits to do all the others.

I understand. I'd vote for something out of your head, though. The car is supposedly SS, but could easily pose as a stocker, too.

OK Fellers, I thought this over and I changed my mind on the 62 chevy. I went to my junk pile and picked out sumpin' that I knew I would never build. Reason was that I have read that a lot of yous guys is getting back into this model car gig after many years. Ifs you was around in the 60's doing this sorta thing, I am sure you saw or built the kit I chose. Now I aint that big a fan of all that Tom Daniels stuff but lots of people are. I always thought it looked like something Jack Bonestell would have Unk and them Varmints driving around in an issue of CARtoons rag. I built a couple back in the day but I gave em away. So………..I have picked one from my younger days just to get it outa the stash. I think it looks like something Errol McCarthy drew. Don't laugh too hard and try not to get sick, just pretend your 12 years old again.

Aw Right! I can't wait to see what you are going to do with this one. Anyway it's not exactly ugly just a little different. This is gonna be fun cause I still am 12 in my mind.

I built a few custom show rods when I was a kid. I don't have a single one in my stash now though.

Ya know Steve, I only have three----This…..Pie Thing and a couple of the AMT Lil Gasser type kits. Now I might get beat up and all for saying this but those Monogram/Daniel cars just never interested me at all. Somewhere around 67 I bought and built a Beer Wagon. Even though I was just a kid I was put off by the simple make up of the kit. I had built AMT's Ala Kart and a couple of MPC show rods and I was disappointed in the detail of the Beer wagon. As if I hadn't learned I pulled the trigger on the Garbage Truck kit and to me that is just what it was. I had modeling friends that loved em and built every single one they could find. I never gave em a second look. I have looked this kit over a little and it is the most ridiculous thing I have seen. I shouldn't but I have to wonder…….What kind of drugs was Tom Daniel doing in those days??? Now before some of the Tom Daniel fans shoot me I don't mean anything bad towards Tom, I just never did warm up to his stuff. I know there is a huge Daniel following and that's fine but I have to ask, Why? I just hope I have enough Rolaids on hand to finish this one.

Well, I have been looking over this……Pie Thing. After some study I think the best way to build this ridiculous mess is backwards. By that I mean paint and finish the interior, gloo the body together, putty and finish the horrible seam it has, mask the interior and paint the outside. From what I can tell, I can get the seats, fuel tank, steering and shifter and the pie rack installed AFTER the body is finished. There is enough opening so I will be able to get my fat, stiff fingers inside along with the parts. There is no chassis, all the suspension pieces attach to the body. So………basically this thing will be built backwards of the instructions. This kit came along in 1968 but I have not ever really looked at one. I have seen a couple of gloo bombs but I only glanced at them. This is the first time I have looked at an unassembled sample of all 71 parts. The only way I could have made a worse choice in kits is if I had picked an old Palmer kit and right now that don't sound too bad. Oh well, Might as well get started. Two piece body, this is gonna be really fun.

Prostock, what my Mother will do is beat the living daylights out of me for the vocabulary I am likely to develop during this build. She is 89 years old but believe me, she can do it. When I was a kid and messed up, she could jerk a not in my lower personality faster than you could blink. Scared? You durn skippy I is. "The Look" from a wife aint jack. When I get that from my mother I know life is going to get pretty darn miserable.

I did some dry brushing on the wood panels and got everything mocked up on the fenders to see how things are going to go. So far, no big problems. I remember the original kit I built years ago just fell together nicely. I have to remember this tool is now 55 years old. It has fit problems but nothing a little sanding and trimming can't cure. I'm Happy so far. More as I get things done.
