Hi , I have been looking into this forum for a few years now . This is my first thread . I started building models with my dad way back in 1965, he liked WW2 planes but he had a box full of 1/32 scale kits that he said we could build together the first one we did together it was a 63 Vette we painted it green with Testors brush paint . The next one was a 64 mustang that I painted blue ...it didn't come out too well. I forgot what the third one was but the fourth was an Avanti and Dad didnt want me to build the Avanti LOL. after a while I started building 1/25 scale and by the time I was 15 I was building the Revell models with steerable wheels doors trunk and hood that open (55-57 chevies)
I Won a few local model contests with my 55 chevies and I was building more models and started more projects but never finished any.
By 1978 I was actually building real cars and engines and I all but stopped building model cars around 1983 but I still bought kits and planned what I was going to build with them. I spent a lot of sundays at the drag strip in the early 70s and in the 80s was working full time as well as doing all the other things people did in the 80s but I kept all my model kits tools and parts
I think I may have over 100 maybe 150 un-built kits. I started Building again in force about 3 years ago and i finally finished a car i started building in 1980 Im going to post it in the section for Modified production cars . I think it will fall into B/mp but it does not have a front bumper so it will have to be a 70s bracket car .its a AMT 68 Camaro with a lot of parts swapping between kits. scratch built and aftermarket parts.
I try to post it today
Thanks for having me and i hope to finish more projects soon !

Thanks everyone , I'm hoping to get a few more built up this year .. I'm working on a MPC spirit of 57 chevy . a 64 rambler american ( I think its a 64 LOL) a revell 69 camaro ,and a project I started back in 1995, revells 64 thunderbolt ( need to strip the paint and redo the paint and maybe finish it) they are all done in the late 60s early 70s style trying to keep them era correct . except the thunderbolt .I back halved that with the 66 nova pro street chassis pan. maybe ill take some pics of progress if i have time , i'm a very very slow builder and sometimes I get bored with a project and start another and never finish.

That Rambler American sounds like an interesting project. Its not finished ....I'd love to show it anyway . I'm frustrated with the paint job , I wanted to re-create an old pactra color which was "rootbeer" but it didnt come out as well this was before I discovered spaz stix colors . Im not going to strip and repaint it again because this is the 3rd paint job on this one too.

I remember the Root Beer color, I did an Autocar in it. Where do you get the Spaz stix paints? I'm in Maine we have no hobby kits that sell any plastic kits at all.

I was on Eastern Long Island until 2016, used to have half a dozen hobby shops around. Used to hit Bay Shore hobbies and Daves a lot. You may have seen us race in the 70's at N.Y. National , Atco or E town. Ran a 55 Chevy gasser (still have it) in C/Gas called the Shell Shocker and a Funny in 1972 and 73 sponsered by Marino's Italian Ices called the Ice Maker. I also raced on Conduit Ave, Cross Bay Blvd and Fountain Ave near you. Ran a purple 440 Challenger Merkel built motor and Vitar auto with 4:88. Those were good times ! Paul

I used to race on Fountain, Cross bay and Conduit also . Raced a lot on the Columbia street Pier too. Had a red V8 Vega wagon , a Flat black 66 chevelle with a white mopar six pack scoop called Last Laff , and then a Black 69 camaro SS. The purple challenger sounds familiar. hold on to that 55 chevy ..... yeh was great times . can't understand how I survived that LOL My 66 chevelle had a NASTY 427 and no seat belts ,drum brakes not to mention a bent chassis. car would have a mind of its own when I launched it . would be driving down coney island ave with open headers and slicks on in middle of day.

Oh that car brings back memories . There were two the same color at fountain one night. the cops flooded the strip the day before and the area that was the finish line "THE DIP at the Intersection" was flooded about 8 inches to a foot of water deep. My friend Danny was there with his 69 GTX . The guy with the challenger wanted to race him. Danny said "im not going through that water" . but the challenger guy said "i went through it before I didnt have any problem." the challenger beat Danny but Danny let off about 5 lightpoles from the finish, the Challenger went through that water at speed and launched off the water into the field to the right. hope that wasnt you. maybe you were the other guy . that challenger was really strong . I heard that 440 you can tell when a car is strong and when a car has a real race engine in it. My freind Pat had his truck out there too. that was also spray can flat black GMC pickup truck with slicks and lawnmowers in the bed for balast LOL thats truck was never beaten as far as i know . My chevelle didnt exist at the time and my vega was totaled. I was driving around in either a gran torino wagon or some other hoopty.
