We're just about a month away from our first contest ending date. The next contest won't begin immediately after the current contest ends, but I thought I'd go ahead and get some ideas from you guys for the next one. No need for specific rules at this point. I'm just looking for general ideas. So go ahead and offer up any type of contest that you think would be interesting for other members. As it gets closer to time for the next contest, we can begin to develop specific rules.
Here are some beginning ideas to get your noggins to thinking. Obviously we could have a contest for each of the types of cars we have boards for, from "Muscle Cars, Day 2 Cars, & Factory Stock" to "1/4 Mile Bikes". Another idea would be a specific make or model contest, e.g. "Any Dodge", or "Any Dodge Challenger". We could also combine the previous two, e.g. "Any Dodge Sportsman", or "Any Dodge Challenger Gasser".
So, do a little thinking and see what you can come up with. We can thrash out the rules as we get closer to time for the contest, but one of the biggest rules would be deciding if it is to be an Out Of Box build, only certain customizations allowed, or an all out, anything goes type build. If we happen to end up with 2, 3, or more good contest ideas, we might just go ahead and plan for the next few contests.

How about celebrating 50 years of 1968. Some kind of car from 1968 since most of us like building from that era anyway. probably limited modifications because you would want it to end this year. It could be a replica or a make believe car as long as it was available in 1968 or it could have to be a 1968 model car. There are plenty of them out there.
I'd like to see us do something along the lines of an all out contest of some sort also but we would need to have time to finish them. Read that as at least a year. I can only imagine what some of these people could do on a build like that.
I really like the any Dodge Challenger Gasser idea! I can see it already, phychadelic paint, slant 6 hemi head, chopped top, scratch built brass straight axle. GOODNESS!!!

How about a drag car from any year that ends in eight, from 1918 to 2018 as long as the year ends in 8.

Those are pretty good ideas. All are noted. Let's see what other ideas roll around.

I like the 50 yrs. of 1968...flip top Funny Cars, Super Stockers, and Stockers as well as Top Fuel and Top Gas were all the rage in '68...
I'll also go along with any year that ends in 8.

Wheelstanders. Anything as long as it's front end is high off the ground.

That's an interesting idea. Something like that had never crossed my mind. It would make an interesting contest, for sure. Thanks for the thought!

One other idea, Home Town Hero's. Every local speed shop and a lot of gas stations (real ones) had some form of drag car.

That's definitely a possibility. And , back in the day every speed shop and most every gas station DID have a hot rod associated with it in some way. Good suggestion, Paul.

Can the "home town heros" idea include a photo of the hero's 1:1 drag car ?

Can the "home town heros" idea include a photo of the hero's 1:1 drag car ? I think that would be a cool idea to include if you had one but what about the guys that don't. I can think of a couple of cars from my area that I would love to do and I remember enough about them to build them but there is no way I would ever find a picture of them now 50 years later.

I see no reason you COULDN'T include a photo of your 1:1 car, but I don't believe we could make that a requirement. Too many of us have let our hot rods fade into history.
