I had a few of those "tight butt cheeks" moments in my '67 Barracuda. I had different gears for either normal street driving or for the strip. With the street gears in, I buried the speedo on more than one occasion.

Guilty as charged! I grew up in kind of an "American Graffiti" little town in the Midwest and the things we did in the 60's. . . aye-yi-yi! Who knew 20 years later I'd be putzing along in a Ford Windstar mini-van full of kids? Anyway, I keep looking at your Red Alert and I keep liking it more and more!

I see it's been awhile for this build also. Thanks for the responses guys. I have changed this to an automatic and added the floor shift to go along with the tranny like to original car.

The shifter came from the snap kit of the 77 Monti Carlo. The tranny came from the parts box. I had to cut the seats apart to install the console and shifter. I also removed the clutch pedal.

I had the full race team version of this kit back in the '70s. If I'd have known then...

Thanks guys. Steve, I had a 1970 SS with the 402 4 speed. I went to tune it up once and was trying to find 396 stuff for it cause I thought it was a 396. But, that's when I found out that it was actually a 402. I looked and looked and what I found at first was in the books a 400 small block and a 400 big block. Later is when I found the 402 when I looked under the hood and found the 402 c.i. on the nomenclature plate on the radiator. I was Ok then. I tell ya, that car scared me once. I raced a guy from work one night and won, but, I have no clue of how fast I was going. The speedometer was bouncing off the peg. I was well over 125 mph fer sure. Never again did I do that. It was fun though. (smiling) I believe that this car (the Red Alert) was a 454 c.i. car though. you captured it 100%. Power was an LS-6 454.
