You know, there is a certain something to be said for a box stock build. A lot of my builds will be pretty much box stock. They will all be displayed inside individual display cases with doors closed and hoods down. I could almost build every one as a curbside.

At one point all my projects were long term projects because of the detailing and I got to the point that I never finished anything. It got so frustrating that I almost quit building. Now I do a contest model once in a while just to have one for shows but most of my builds are shelf models. Don't get me wrong I think these guys that build that way are great but it just didn't work for me.

I'm right with you. I know for a fact that I will never build a kit for a show or contest. My builds will be displayed in my office/man cave. Other than a few friends and family members, I'll be the only one viewing my builds. So I'm REALLY building for myself. Each car will be displayed in an individual display case with doors closed and hood down. So I'm really building curbsides with every kit. I do plan on completing building each kit so most of them will have engines and some chassis detail. I'll even do some engine detailing on certain builds. I'm just not going to go too far out of my way to super detail any of them.
But like you, I can sure appreciate the extreme level of detailing some guys put into their builds and I'm blown away by some. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or a contest judge to recognize when a guy has spent a lot of extra time and money on a build.
