OK, guys. We’ve finally decided on what we’re going to do for our next contest. Actually, it should be contestS, as we’ve decided to launch two at the same time. I think we should have something here that most everybody can enjoy. Here are the two contests. If you have questions, or if you see that an additional rule or two needs added, please let us know. You can post it here, or send a PM to one of the Admins. Don’t be bashful about it. If something needs addressing, I’d rather do it now than halfway through the contest period.
First contest:
"1968 - Celebrating 50 years"
1) The subject of this contest will be any car or pickup truck that was factory produced during the 1968 model year.
2) The finished car must fit into one of the recognized drag racing classes, but can be any recognized drag racing sanctioning body. ie, NHRA, AHRA, etc. The class can be period correct from any year that sanctioning body was in existence, including current classes.
3) The car must be steel bodied from the firewall back (the 1:1 car obviously). Use the magnet test. If a magnet won’t stick, it’s illegal. 3rd party, fiberglass fenders and hood are allowed.
4) The car must have a framed or unibody chassis, no tubes!
5) This is an all out, no holds barred contest. There will be no limit to the amount of customizing you apply, including 3rd party parts (plastic and resin) and scratch-building.
6) The contest period begins now, and continues until the 15th of January, 2019. We decided to extend the end of year to the middle of January to alleviate problems with any Holiday vacation or other plans you might have.
7) Voting will begin immediately following the termination of the build period. I think we’ll shorten the voting period to either 7 or 10 days.
Additional clarification for the first contest: Your build can be either a replica of an actual '68 drag racing car, or it can be a "fantasy" or "dream" ride. As long as the build is a true 1968 production vehicle that remains original steel from the firewall back and has an original type chassis it should be acceptable. One other clarification: If the 1:1 car had/has any fiberglass parts on the front of the car, those fiberglass parts must closely resemble the original steel parts with the idea being to resemble the actual vehicle as it came from the factory.
Second contest:
“Hometown Heroes”
1) This contest’s subject will be any car from 1950 to 1989.
2) The car must fit into one of these recognized classes; Muscle Cars, Day 2 Cars, Factory Stock, Stock, Super Stock, Gassers, and Modified Production.
3) We’ll use the very same “steel” car rules as the “1968” contest. From the firewall back must be a steel car. Fiberglass front clips and hoods allowed.
4) Also borrowing from the “1968” contest, the car must have a framed or unibody chassis, no tubes!
5) We’re going to leave the specific customizing rules out of this contest and ask all of the builders to simply limit the overall amount of scratch building and 3rd party parts to a reasonable amount. Please, no heavily modified and/or customized entries. This will allow you to apply the customizations you feel are really necessary for your build while not going too far. This is something we’re going to have to trust each member to adhere to. In the event an entry has received far too much customization, we won’t hesitate to disqualify the entry. So please help us maintain a friendly, affable contest and forum.
6) The contest period will be from now until June 30th of this year. Hopefully that will provide enough time for everyone to complete his build. If this seems unreasonable, let us know now and we’ll consider extending the contest period.
7) The voting period will begin at the end of the contest period, and will also be shortened to either 7 or 10 days.
Some additional clarification for the second contest: The subject of your build can be either a very well known "Hero" like 'Ohio George' or 'Akron Arlen' OR it can be a virtually unknown "Hero" from your hometown like 'Billy Bob Smith' that had a killer '55 Chevy gasser that was always winning at the local track. Not all of us had a really well known "Hero" from our immediate area so you can choose to either build one of your lesser known local boys or just your favorite "Hero" from a nearby town. As long as the build fits the rest of the criteria for a "Hometown Hero" it's acceptable. We'd prefer NO "dream" or "fantasy" builds for this contest. It has been suggested that a photo of the "Hero" car be included. We're not going to make that a requirement, but if you choose to include a photo it's perfectly acceptable. And, as with the "1968" contest, any fiberglass parts on the front must resemble original steel body work
There will be prizes. I’m just not sure at this point what the prizes will be other than Winner’s Stickers and a decal sheet which have been provided to us by ‘superstock’. While that might be the extent of the prizes for the “Hometown Heroes” contest, I’ll keep tying to find businesses to donate prizes for the “!968” contest.
These contests are for new builds only. Please post occasional photos of your build on the "In The Race Shop - Works In Progress" board. Once your build is complete, post 5 photos of the car/truck with a title for the build on the "QuarterMilers Contests" board as follows, one frontal ¾, one rear ¾, one broadside of the driver’s side, one engine, and one chassis. Once the building period has ended I'll select the frontal 3/4 photo to post on the voting thread.
