Hi all I have a couple questons on gasser`s from the 60`s. I`m building the 1950 Austin I would like to know did they have any saftey feathers like trans blanket, shut off for the motor and the pull ring for the parrachute was it on the roll bar or dash? Was just wondering because I want to do this one right. And if someone has photo`s of how the ring for the parrachute looks like would be great. Or any other info you guys can share with me that would help with my project would be great.

John Pol John, I always preface these answers with the same question...What part of the '60s are you talking about? That decade saw more changes in rules, safety regulations, and equipment than any other. A Gas class car from 1969 is light years different from a car built in 1960. Early '60s - No trans blanket. Late '60s - , tranny blanket (especially on blown cars). Parachute cable routing and ring location were all the result of driver preference (no rules regarding location). I've seen floor mounted, lever operated, releases but most came over the roll bar and hung within easy reach of the driver. In real life, I have never seen a dash mounted release, but I'm sure that someone had one. I'm sure that if you check the internet you'll find some good photos. Best place to look is in old magazines. Check out this thread: www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=237627 Even though these are modern cars, the mounting methods have not changed much over the years. You could get some ideas here.
