Hi all I`m doing a 1950 Austin as a gasser from the early 60`s. Would like to know how would someone make the mask for the driver? Any help would be great.

I'm not sure a Gasser driver would have worn a mask. I only recall seeing them on the drivers of Fuel cars--dragsters, fuel altereds, fuel funnies.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure whether Top Gas (dragster) drivers wore masks or not.
But I'm pretty sure they weren't required or commonly used in the Gasser and lesser classes.

I tend to agree with Snake. I don't recall seeing drivers other than the nitro class warriors wearing the masks with breathers back in the 50s and 60s. I wouldn't have supposed that Gas class drivers would have been required to wear them... Scott

John Pol If you want to make a mask [tissue paper] wet with elmers glue will work. You can form it as it dries. Use a tooth pick to shape it the way you want it. As far as period correct. I guesss that's your call. Earl
