I think I just had my question about these two kinds of cars answered. I didn't know how similar or different the two were.
I was just now watching an old episode of "Street Outlaws". It just came on and Big Chief was talking to the camera about which cars were going on a specific challenge. He said that he had been told to bring only real steel street race cars, and no "Pro Mods". Since we know that their cars are really "Pro Street" and he called them "Pro Mods", I'm going to now assume they are the same thing.
Can any of you guys confirm or disprove that? Speak up if you can.

let me throw my 2 cents worth in here for what it is worth. First lets define the classes we are talking about.
Pro Stock - early basically stock body and chassis - later almost totally race shop built though still appearing somewhat like the factory car.
Pro mod - full double tube chassis - supercharged engines whether nitrous, blown, or turbo -carbon fiber bodys - totally purpose built drag racing car.
Pro Street (and I think this is where the confusion, is coming in) 2 types: 1) is a pro street race car as classified by some of the street car racing associations and I would have to include the Street Outlaws in this group - these cars go to the track in a trailer, they make their runs, they go back in the trailer and go home. Some of these do have a lot in common with a pro mod / pro stock.
2) the second type of pro street car usually a tubbed back half or maybe even a full chassis car - is a licensed car that you could drive to the track, make your runs and drive home. That being said were some of these cars built so radically that you couldn't drive them. Of course they were but those usually weren't any good at the track either! They were just show cars. Do the owners of these cars trailer them to shows or races of course but in most cases they don't have to, they do because they want to.
In my opinion and I'll put my models under any heading that the forum decides on - it seems if we don't want to add a bunch of new headings why not have one for streetable drag cars. this could include muscle cars, day2 cars, pro street and any other cars that ran on the street at least part of the time. As I said this is just my opinion from over 50 years of following this stuff and it's probably worth what you paid for it. hope this helps and doesn't hinder.

We already have a board for Muscle Cars, Day 2 cars, and Factory Stock. I don't think Pro Street fits in with them. I have added Pro Street to the Pro Mods for now. We'll see how that goes. There are already official NHRA classes for Pro Stock and Pro Mods, but nothing specifically for Pro Street. From what I can tell an awful lot of Pro Street cars would fit the class rules for Pro Mods.

I like your discription there Allen, a couple things, not to confuse the issue, but... pro street (by the law) needs treaded tires, wipers and exhaust that exits the underneath of the car. A lot of vision issues come up too, but if you get into the different plates you can put on a car changes the rules too.... thought I'd throw that last part in there.

I watch Street Outlaws and thought I heard them saying that a 'Pro Mod' was a car with a tubed chassis and a fiberglass body, the pro streets were metal bodies. Maybe I didn't hear right or just misunderstood.

I heard that too, but I think it was metal roof, quarters and had to retain parts where the vin was stamped in the body. I think they had 'glass deck lid, hood and fenders. maybe even doors.
