Today is my birthday and the mailman delivered my copy of "Junior Stock". I took about an hour to just leaf through it and read little bits & pieces. Talk about a gold mine of info! Wow! This thing is absolutely chock full of info, data, names, stories, photos, and more. I'm most definitely going to take time away from the old boob tube to start reading this book tonight. Can hardly wait.
I'd dive in now, but my wife just started preparing my birthday supper - T-bone steak with all the fixins. And those T-bones will be grilled outdoors. Temp is 32 degrees, but she can grill inside on the patio so it's not too bad. I'll worry about reading some after I feast and take a nap. Then a piece of her made from scratch cherry pie with vanilla ice cream and I'll be awake enough to read.
She decided to make it a big weekend of my favorite cooking so tomorrow night is slow cooked beef roast with her made from scratch noodles, smashed taters, and sweet corn. Then a little later some more of that cherry pie. I'll be 5 pounds heavier by Monday and don't care. She's probably the best cook I've ever known and there is just no refusing to pig out when she goes all out like this.
Her cooking and this new book are making my birthday weekend pretty danged enjoyable.

T-Bone? Roast Beef? Heck, I can't afford that, I will be having slow baked Sow Belly in Beer, Grits and Collard Greens with corn bread. Then it will be Sweet Potato Pie or Persimmon. Maybe I should show up with Allen tomorrow at 7:00.

Just finished the steaks. No sense in showing up for any of those leftovers. Not a scrap left. The steaks she bought were fantastic. So now it's time to nap until cherry pie time!
Oh, and persimmon pudding sounds pretty good too.

Thanks for all the well wishes, guys. Had a fine day yesterday. I'm kicked back watching a little college basketball this afternoon. My appetite is already whipped up for tonight because I'm smelling that beef roast cooking in the kitchen.
I aporeciate the birthday wishes.

Dang. I forgot. I got the first chapter of my book read last night. It's going to take a little longer to read this thing because I'm going back over the chapter I read and making mental notes abour stuff. There is just so much knowledge in it I don't want to just read through it real quick and be done. I'm trying to glean as much as I can from it.
Thanks to you guys that suggested I buy it. I'll for sure be buying the "Super Stock" book next.

Glad ya liked the book Steve. Yer durn skippy lucky I don't live next door cause I'd be turning up like a bad penny when all that roast beef and steaks gets cooked up. I'll be sitting down to Pinto's fried taters, gravy, busciuts an fried chicken livers. Guess dessert will be a little black berry cobbler I made from some I picked last summer and froze. I;ll cook myself up some of those steaks an roast beef…………….Just as quick as I win the Lottery.

Just finished supper. Absolutely delicious as expected. I really stuffed myself so I'll have to wait a while before I get a slab of that cherry pie.
By the way, those were handpicked cherries from the tree at the old place. I'm going to miss that tree.
