Mythical "Aussie Raider"

..... there isn't much you can do with the old MPC Ramchargers kit ...... its rather poor design, bad fit, and other deficiencies leave quite a bit to be desired ...... however, one thing the kit does portray very well is the seldom used "Legs Under" style of front engine dragster design ....... a few were built this way and can be easily recognized by the distinct "down angle" of their engines ..... the legs under design raised the rear end to a point in which the driver's legs went under the axle housings and the rear center section was cradled in his crotch ......... very few drivers liked the configuration and would drive these cars ....... the down angle of the engines was due to the raised position of the rear end

..... this build uses the chassis and body from the Ramchargers kit, and a blown big block Chevrolet engine from the AMT '37 Chevrolet kit ...... the paint is MCW Black lacquer ......... the details came from Pro Tech ..... Comp Resins supplied the Hilborn injection and scoop .....and the decals were originally for Graeme Cowin's "Aussie Raider" funny car ......... I adapted them for this little "Down Under" project ..... and I guess I should thank "Taz" for making an appearance also

Here's an example of a real "Legs Under" fuel dragster ....... "Terrible" Ted Gotelli's Gotelli Speed Shop car ....... note the nose down attitude of the engine









...... by the way, this is the car that Denny Milani was driving when he was tragically killed at Half Moon Bay ......... Gotelli totally scrapped the car after that.

It was one of the prettiest front engine cars I ever saw.

That's pretty neat. I don't think I have ever seen a dragster with the engine tilted down that way. It almost look like the drive shaft broke and somehow kicked the tail of the tranny up. Very cool stuff. Thanks for posting.
