This is the original issue from 1965 - 66 ( it's as old as I am ! ) The decal's "might" be usable.... but I doubt it. I built this kit in 1971 - 72 and made a Holy Mess " out of it . This time I "WILL" do it Justice !

Ummm………Littletim, that's not the original issue box art, that one is about the 4th issue from around 69-70. The original had a solid white car on the box. No matter, it is still basically the same kit so go for it!!! Show us some pics when you get started.

You are correct. The 1965 issue was a White drag car on the box. the one I have is the second issue ( Box Art ) from 69. so it's not as old as me. But it is the kit that "Started it all " for me. ( Hold on ... SNIIIIIIIIFFFFF ... AAAhhhhh. ) I'm still enjoying the "Old kit smell" !

Well….After the first there was the Box art series or no name as I called em. I don't have a pic but it was done much like this 57 art only with a red custom on the box top. Then the Dave Wilder "Gasser" box art from around 68-69 then the box art you have which was 69-70. Heck, if I was you, I would just come up with one of the older box tops and say that was it. Nobody would know. Only difference in the later issues is decals. The first issue had different front wheels and tires for the drag version and were never in the later releases. the "Show and Go" Box art you have I am pretty sure is the 4th release. Maybe some of these other old geezers here can help remember some of the box art I found a pic of the 2nd version, knew I had it somewhere.

Nice kit! I need to add one of those to my stash. That makes a nice gasser build.

I'm NOT a "collector" So I"m not up on what kit came first. But I DO know, that this kit was the issue I built as a kid. Sorry if I gave Mis-information . I'm not trying to boost the kit value ( beside's, I'm going to build it so it's collectability will be shot all to heck ! ) Gloozalot, Thank's for posting those picture's . Reminded me of 2 other box tops that I cant find to post. I know that it was re-released in 2007 and i think again sometime within the last 4 or 5 year's. Just goes to show you AMT made some good stuff... so good ,it's still in demand today. ( Still sniffing ..... Ahhhhhhh !!! Old plastic ....,Mmmmmmm. )

Reading this thread again has made me decide to move that kit way up on my "next to buy" list. Definitely one of the top 3 and might just put it up there as "next". I most certainly am going to want a gasser build of that kit so might as well get it bought now.
Thanks for posting the thread and all the other info, guys!
