I've noticed that there seems to be redundancy and/or confusion over where a new build is to be posted. I started thinking about it and finally came to the conclusion that I don't really see a need for a WIP board AND all the individual finished build boards. It does require a guy to post his photos in two different places. So what do you guys think? Can we do away with the "In The Race Shop - Works In Progress" board and just post all of our builds right in the correct class board? Is that easier, or should we keep that board? What do you all think?

No. The WIP and finished project can be in one thread under the subject you are building, together. Oh , that "Which class does my car belong" could be flushed too. That question can be taken care of in the discussion board or even in the thread for your WIP. And I reckon since I'm here, maybe just "Haulers and Shop Vehicles". That covers not only the hauler, trailer puller, shop truck, parts getter, wrecker, owners POV, or anything with the team or company logo on it. Forget that tow ball stuff.

Yeah, I looked at the "which class,,," board a while back and thought about not really needing it. Good points on the shop vehicle thing too. I'll give that a bit of thought too.

I happen to agree 100% with gloozalot on this stuff. I wouldn't build a "Ford Focus or Honda Civic" if you paid me to do it. And I don't really care what "class" a build of mine might go into, or have to be re-done in order to "fit" somewhere. If it looks like it would show up at a drag strip (official or farm road blacktop) and it was fun to build and it looks kind of fast, it works for me! Just "build it and I will come."

OK, guys. I'll do a little deleting and cleaning up maybe tomorrow. I'll have to move a few threads and rearrange a couple things so it might take me a couple days to get it done.

It's not really that big of a deal and we'd much rather see you spend your time building! So please, if you want to make those changes-fine; if not-fine. That all pales compared to having you building on a kit!

Yeah, what David said. I think you should grab one of those old 32 kits and build something for the CBP. You been "Getting ready" and "Collecting tools and paint" for durn near a year or more so DO IT! So what if it is a gloo bomb, I build em and I don't want to be the only one here that does. Get yer feet wet and smear some gloo, slop on some paint, get fingerprints on the glass and mess up some chrome and join the rest of us. Look at the other side of this------------Those old kits roll pretty well so if you don't like how it comes out, you can play with it in the floor and roll it around and crash it into things. It's even more fun if you still have some Lincoln Logs. Trust me, I know.

I was a junior explosive ordinance freak as a kid. Many of my builds when I was little were subjected to anything from a simple Black Cat firecracker, to M80s, all the way to my own home grown black powder explosives. Did I ever mention that at about age 11 or 12 I blew one finger off and had to have it surgically reattached and repaired?I was pretty much evil as a child and young adult. As for getting started, yeah I know. I'm still having difficulty doing a couple of things with this right hand. I've got to figure out different ways to do a couple things, or learn to do them with my left hand. It frustrates the He** out of me when I try and do something and that hand goes all whacko on me. I'm also trying to get a bunch of Spring type work done here at the house. I finally resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to hire someone to help me (read that as do it) with some stuff. I found a couple of young brothers to help. They will be here for the first time tomorrow. Hope they work out well for me.

Okay, I got an idea! Build one Steve and then blow it up and make a video of it and post it!! In fact, you've inspired me and I might dig around and see if there is an old build that I never liked how it came out and I'll take a video of blowing it to smithereens! And no, we won't need a new category for that!

HAH! Nope, I'm pretty much done with that explosive stuff. I can tell you this from experience. After you have completely blown a finger off with a home made bomb, you have enough time to look down at that spot where your finger used to be, then tell your little buddy you've been blowing stuff up with that it's time for him to go home, all before the pain reaches the brain and drives you over the edge. I can still recall the whole affair and it still has me scared of even firecrackers.

I did use a Black Cat once in a while but I always used my Red Ryder, 200 Shot, Range Model Air Rifle with a Compass in the Stock. I still got both eyes too. Now sit down, and Git to that Kit Steve!

Dang, 'glooz'. That reminded me of BB Gun wars we had as kids. Everybody was supposed to use ONLY 'Red Ryder' BB Guns and we divided up into 2 teams and played war. Even out of 'Red Ryder' guns those BBs stung like the Devil if they hit just the right spot. It was all fun until a new kid brought a Crossman, multi-pump BB/Pellet gun to play. Don't know how we all missed it, but the game began and it just happened to be me that got hit with the first pellet out of that gun. And he was using pointed, wad cutter type pellets. It took forever to get that pellet dug out of my arm. We were fairly close together when he shot me so it went in kind of deep. I still have the scar.
Oh, for the good, old days. WaaHaaaHaaaa!!!
But on a more serious note. I actually have two kits on my bench right now. I kind of messed up on that curbside Galaxie kit I started on so went ahead and boxed it back up for now. I've got the '68 Shelby GT-500 kit that is my "1968 50 Years" build and the "American Dreams" prepainted Challenger kit on the bench. No real noticable progress on either right now so haven't bothered with photos or anything. I'm going at it a little slower in hopes I don't mess up like I did with the Galaxie.

What did you mess up on the Galaxie? Nearly anything is recoverable and frankly, 90% of your modeling ability will come from correcting mishaps! I never learned a thing when things fell together!

Case in point Steve. My 37 Chevy Gasser should be done and would be except for a "minor" mishap. I was fiddling around with the glass in order to get a nice fit. I had set everything in place just to get a good look and then when I picked it up and turned the body over to do one last little bit of sanding on the glass edge, the hood fell off. I never bothered with it because it landed softly somewhere "down there" on the little carpet piece I have under my bench stool. There, the glass now seems to fit perfectly so let's ease off the stool and get that hood for a final overall look. . . .crunch! I stepped on my hood and broke it into three pieces! My gorgeous beautiful sanded, primered, masked off, painted, bare metal foiled, clear-coated hood was destroyed! Well, gather up the pieces, super glue it all back together and let it cure. Now, a couple of days later I've got it sanded back out and primered again. It'll look really pretty darn good by the time I'm done with it (again). And in a weird way, I'll actually take a little more satisfaction over this build when it's done knowing that I stepped on the hood and smashed it to pieces and it STILL got done and it looks good (without a magnifying glass)!

What you can see when working on your build, any imperfections or glue mess, paint smear, etc., most of the time doesn't show up in photographs that we post here online. If you make a mistake on the interior of a hardtop, no one is going to see it or notice it. On a convertible, that's when you have to be careful. You learn from your mistakes, not from putting a build together perfectly the first time. If it was supposed to be like that, why bother. Get 'er done!
