I had been trying different ways of holding my tool to scribe panel lines. The jerky contractions I get in my right arm pulled the tool onto the body a few times. I've decided to put that kit aside until I have time to experiment with body putty and sanding. I think I'm going to have to start using my left hand to scribe.

Ehh, why scribe? Unless you are putting panels in that weren't there, not sure it's necessary. I might do so much bodywork that I have to go back and clean out some door lines or whatever and most of the time the back of an Exacto blade is fine. Just take your time. But overall, I've built a couple hundred kits and I have used my panel scriber less times than I have fingers and toes!

All my builds will be displayed hood down so I decided to pay more attention to exterior detailing. One of the things I noticed about several builds I've seen on different forums is that a lot of them have very weak looking panel lines after the primer & paint. So I made it a goal of mine to make sure all the panel lines were deeply grooved prior to applying paint.

You might try using painters tape along the line you're scribing to help keep the point of the scribing tool you are using in or on the line, or even a flexible ruler. Worth a try. Good luck!

Thanks for those tips, Steve. I've tried a ruler of sorts, but that didn't work for me. I might just have to try using tape. Hadn't really thought about that.

Steve, if you are bent on scribing, I use the cheap old Dymo labeling tape that I got at Office Depot/Office Max. The few times I have had to scribe, this worked perfectly for me. It sticks well, leaves no residue, is thick enough to keep your blade where it belongs and is cheap. If you can "jump" Dymo tape, you don't need to be scribing brother!
