37 Chevy Gasser II

In response to Gloozalot's '37 Chevy Gasser build, I am joining him with one. I've got the suspension mostly down and the motor far enough along to get the headers fabricated. Incidentally, those blue stubs on the rear of the frame have not been trimmed, sanded and painted yet. That's how I adjust my rear ride height. I make my own shocks and drill two corresponding holes in the frame pan. After the shocks are firmly mounted to to the rear axle I can then press down (or pull up) on the car to get it where I want it and then use a drop of super glue to nail it in. The same general technique can be used to adjust the rear ride height of most of your builds and it's easy-peasy and solid. Just a tip that might come in handy for someone.

Yer getti'n ahead of me David. I got this mess all spread out on the desk and mess'n round with the parts but got nothing painted yet but the mill. I kept having a fit problem and figured out this 51 year old kit chassis had a little bow in it so;s after some un-kind words and a little work I got it back where it should be. When I get a little started I'll post the pics up here and we can share the thread so's all these squirt-racin' types can laff at us two old circle burners building a drag car. These guys might beat me to the end of the 1/4 but I can turn left and get back down the return road to the pits quicker than them! I knows about the guy runni'n his chops but I didn't know his name was Bob Falfa, Don't worry bout him, I figure he will end up on his pointy little head anyway. Iff'in it was the other guy we know, I don't figure his stuff will start when the time comes. I'll have some pics shortly.

Glooz and I ARE indeed circle-burner builders so watch out in the other lane. If we're not likin' how this is going we just might swing over and put you in the fence and keep on truckin'! Or maybe we'll just nudge ya a little so ya break loose. Are those moves legal? Are they bad? 

Oh and Glooz, I think Milner gonna give me some of his leftover paint.

My Pal David is sorta ahead of me on this project we have going.  While he is stacking his 37 Gasser with a Fat Block Chevy, I chose to use the six and use the California Bill Fisher/Horning 12 port head with fuel injection.  I combined the kit six with the head option that is in the AMT 51 Chevy kit.  I also cut off the Stovebolt tranny and used the poor attempt at a Hydro AMT included on the end of the 427.  I got it plumbed up a little and some plug wires and boots.  I;m still looking for the right velocity stacks for the injectors.  The Chassis is being painted and I am now starting on body work.    I'm getting there David, maybe we can line em up in a week or two…..or three…….or………..

Glooz! This motor looks great and those headers are out of this world! Not to worry, I've got the guys in the shop chasing down a bunch of odds and ends I needed done so it'll be Monday or so before they can get back to working on the '37 Chevy. They've been out gathering parts for a couple of "roundy-round" builds that we'll be taking on after this old Chevy. The shop guys like it when it's busy so we have to go where the action is!

Naw, not outta this world, just outta the 51 kit. Guess I am gonna have to buy some more 51's, this was the last of my 12 port stuff. I got all them roundy parts in one big heaping pile wait'in fer the start. Soon's I get this 37 skinned I'll get that Howe Chassis on the jig. By the way, this 1967 plastic is brittle or I'm getting heavy handed more than I was. I have broke a lot of parts!

Guess I got ahead of David a little on this 37 deal.  Even though I still have to add the radiator support rods and hoses, I am calling this thing done and boy am I glad.  This old kit fought me from start to finish so it goes in the display case.  Parts not from the kit are the Fisher/Horning head, headers and the Halibrand slotted wheels and tires.  Paint is Testors rattle can Arctic Blue.  David said he built 8 footers and I think this one is a 10 footer.  10 feet away it looks pretty good, closer and you see all my ham-fisted bloopers.  So, here is my 37, now it's your turn David.

Terrific Glooz! I'm only a foot (or less) away in these photos and this thing looks spot on! I really like what you did with those rims and your foil work and window trim is crisp as can be. Is that window trim foil or paint? The color is about "perfect" and I can hear that old Six-Banger growl! Just a super looking old Gasser Glooz; a clinic in building!

David the trim is foil. If I tried that with paint it would look like I did it with a crayon. Those wheels were original items from the AMT 40 Willys/32 Ford double kit and the chrome was shot. I gave em the oven cleaner treatment and was surprised to see they were molded in a grey/black swirl plastic, never seen that before. They took the Metalizer Magnesium paint well. I noticed after I posted the pics the chrome windshield center post is missing!! I must have lost that when I moved the model to photo it. If you look close, you can see where it WAS! Pics lie. If you could see this in person it would look much different. The paint is FAR from perfect but thanks for the thumbs up. I would never put this on a display or contest table!!! It was fun even with all the problems.

I almost like it better without the windshield post! I foiled my side spears on mine last night but I painted the window trim (just to see if I could do it!) I even hand painted the wing windows! When done, I'll have some satellite photos taken of it and post them since that'll be about the right distance on mine. I don't put my stuff on display tables unless there is a gurney nearby.

I'm a night or two out George. I'm thinking that I can get mine buttoned up late tonight after "the day" and maybe get some photos posted Thursday. Maybe we'll get them out this weekend and cruise around looking for trouble!!
