Still working on this but I have to say it is getting to the point that I might have to switch gears. The lack of available sources for correct decals and engine parts is a setback. Still going to finish it but am thinking it would display better if I build it as a generic or phantom car. Maybe swapping out the wedge for a 427 sohc. They did run them w/c6 transmissions Back in the day. 70sprostockfan... I did order two of those Willys kits, got a fairly good deal on Ebay I totally understand but that would sure be a shame. I hope you can rework the injectors out of the Anglia kit. I'm not sure about the Algon front cover. I googled it but didn't come up with much but I would think with your skills something could be modified. I was really thinking that Fremont used to do those decals ( it may have been the gasser) and I'm seeing a lot of those on the bay lately but so far I haven't seen that particular set. I'll keep my eyes open. In the meantime have you considered checking to see if Allen at Whoopie Cat Decals might be interested in doing them. He does a lot of the odd sets. Also if you are on facebook check with Chuck Boerner he does a lot of the odd decals. He's very busy it may take him a while but this sounds like a project he might be interested in. There are also a lot of facebook clubs out there that sell old decals etc of course. I'm just learning what a resource facebook can be. As if I needed another way to spend money on models. I'm sure you'll like that Willys kit. one of my all time favorites for sure

Cant believe it myself but after searching for a year for these decals I finally found a source from someone on another modeling forum. Also a correct hood for the car. So, I guess its back to the original plan, still looking for some engine parts that I can be doctored up to look like the Algon ones. excellent glad to here it! I thought I had seen them somewhere. Do you mind telling us where you found them. I might put this one on my lengthy list.

Allen... The decals are from Fremont. versions 1,2,and 3. as well as a correct hood without the cut out AMT put there for the injector stacks.
Most of the documentation I have found on this car is version 2 (front axle moved forward and the wheel arches shoved forwards. I kind of like this version, it has a little more going on as far as lettering (decals) and is just the sort of unusual style cars from early drag racing that I like. It's possible to build this version tho there are some things that keep me going back to version 1. While building this I made the decision to use styrene for the frame (Evergreen stock machined down to a scale 2x3") the real car has no forward diagonal bracing like most of the early drag cars. So I made the decision to build the frame onto the interior tub as one piece and leave the the body (as one piece also). It would be nice to make the front end removable for display but its really supporting the whole front of the model. Now I could be clever and still build it that way, just no removable front (hope this all makes sense cause now I'm confused)

Oh yea I got that, only one question? Who's on first ?? No seriously I think I got it. I really have come to like this car while following your work on it and I have most of what I need to build a decent rendition of it except for the decals so I might have to chase some of those down and move it up on the list. Why not there's only 5 or 6 hundred on the list now. It sure would be cool to find some way to have a removable front end if possible.

Click to open and click again for super size. Paul Paul, That is the version of the car I'm leaning for, tho it does create sort of an engineering challenge. Really like the fact that it has the Hayward Ford sponsorship on it. just have to figure out how I can pull that off. Luckily I have a spare kit body to use as a donor for the modification. Hate cutting into it because I've already done allot of work (other than the rear wheel openings) to get it looking right. filling in Facias, narrowing bumpers and the the normal cleaning up that you would expect. Decisions, decisions.

Working on the front suspension. The leaf springs are just a rough draft of what will become final, just needed to see how the overall fit would be. Thanx for looking.

Great work on it. I never thought about doing the front axle like you did. Nice. Paul

this couldn't come at a better time. when you get done with that straight axel, can you send it to me, I am doing a 66 nova gasser and could really use it. if not, just take a few days and build me one.... kidding.... no, not really... I am. I did download all the pictures though and will print them out today. all that is styrene, correct? what did you make the hub out of? is that all scratched too. fantastic work.
