Welcome to the group Steve! I see you're going to fit in fine around here. I hate to admit it but I've got some projects that have been around much longer than 10 years but that beside the point, back to yours. To be honest I like the original wheels and tires on the back. If I was gonna change anything I might change the fronts but that's just me. If you decide to keep the modern rear wheels and tires I think I would open the wheel house up in front a little. In fact I don't know that you would want to go there but I think a small lip on the wheel opening would look cool. I had a friend use a small slice of a medicine bottle to make one recently. Worked out real well for him. Good luck and keep us posted on how this comes out please. Looking forward to seeing it either way!

Thanks Allen. Yeah, I was thinking the modern rear wheels/slicks were too big. That's why I asked what others think. I am going with different wheels up front. I ordered a pair of 5 Slot Halibrand front wheels from Competition Resins via Slixx Decals today. Thanks.

Here is a second vote for the smaller wheel/tire combo. I know I'm totally stuck in days gone by, but I'm not a fan of the big tire hot rods. And I'm certainly not convinced that big tires offer any advantage. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks, Steve. I do appreciate your comments. I've already changed the wheel/slicks back to what I originally had. It does look better that way. Good feedback fom you and Allen.

Great build idea! I agree the rears look too big, heck the best part of the older Altereds was smoking the hides halfway down the quarter. I do like the spokes on the front but to me they are just too wide IMO. Paul

Build what you think looks right and what you like Steve. It's plastic, resin, glue and paint; and it goes together to make whatever art form you choose. I think it looks great and I am just delighted to see someone build something! Thanks!

That's why I decided to change them to the 5 Slot Halibrands that are popular on many builds from the late 60's early 70's. I'll be able adjust the fit of those better as well. Thanks for your feedback!

I'm getting feedback from those of you who have builds going, or have finished, that may have encountered issues like this. And, I like to build! My problem is getting them finished in a timely manner. Lol.

I received the 5 Slot Halibrand wheels from Slixx. Cleaned the slots out and drilled the holes for the axle to go through. I think they look better with the wider front tires than the spoke wheels that come with the Winged Express kit. I also been painting up the engine. I've been looking at reference pics of 1:1 Alterds online to see how the block, oil pan, and blower, etc., were painted or not. I'll post some photos later. Here's a side view with the Halibrand front wheels...

Yep, I'm liking what you're doing there with wheels/tires, both front and rear. Are you going to paint the front wheels or chrome them?

Thanks guys. I'm going to paint them, not sure what color. Maybe something totally 180 degrees from the body color.

That would be my choice too. Contrast the wheels and body color.
